One Mum's Bizarre Festive Salad Is Described By People As 'Pure Poison'

Every family has their own weird little Christmas traditions. You put up your Christmas tree on a certain day and make sure it looks just right, put on your favourite festive movies, some of up even dress up our pets to get them into the holiday spirit.

No matter where you stand on other Christmas traditions though, one thing has to be absolutely perfect – the Christmas dinner! You need your meat (ham, turkey, beef, chicken, your roast is up to you, but there has to be one), mountains of veggies, stuffing, gravy and a delicious dessert. But if you’re one Mom from Utah, you’ve got a very controversial salad that needs to be served up too.

Katie Reed, owner of Facebook page It’s A Mother Thing, recently shared her recipe for a festive 7-Up salad that is apparently popular in parts of the US. It may be popular somewhere, but for most people, it looks questionable at best! Let’s take a look at it shall we…

First, let’s see the ingredients. Naturally, you’re going to need a bottle of 7-Up, 7 oz of it. You’ll also need 8 oz of mini marshmallows, a small box of lime jello, 6 oz of cream cheese, a jar of maraschino cherries, one cup of crushed pineapple and a tub of cool whip. All looks pretty normal so far but the final ingredient is a bit confusing, you’ll need half a cup of mayonnaise.

Now for the recipe itself. Katie’s first step to a 7-Up salad is to heat up the 7-up, mini marshmallows and lime jello in a pan until it looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters invaded your kitchen.

Next you’re going to mix in your cream cheese, cherries, and pineapple until you’ve got something that looks a bit like toxic vomit. Anyone feeling hungry yet? No? Me either!

Finally you take your cool whip and mix it together with the mayonnaise. Yes, mayonnaise. In a dessert. Mayonnaise. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is truly bizarre, right? Well anyway, you take your weird cool whip and mayo blend and mix that in with the other ingredients.

Pop the whole weird mixture into a jello mould to set and when it’s set you’ll have a green, loaf-like… thing. I’m not sure what makes it a salad but there is definitely 7-Up involved. Who wants the first slice? Anybody?
